One of the more interesting massage benefits I stumbled across was improved neonatal outcomes for both the mother and child. I had assumed that pregnancy massage would help expecting mothers with muscle pain, relaxation, improved sleep, and maybe things like depression, but I hadn’t considered the effects on the developing child. Of course it makes perfect sense that a happy, healthy mother provides a better environment in which the child can develop, and we all know that eliminating things like smoking and drinking have been proven to positively affect babies, but it still hadn’t occurred to me. I was happy to read about it though, last I checked healthy babies and mothers are a good thing!
Anyway, I hope to improve and grow the section over time, if you know of any other interesting studies related to massage therapy, point me in their direction.
1) Is this a nation-wide site?
Not yet. I live here in Encinitas and Myssage was just launched in the San Diego area.
2) Is it only free for a trial period?
No. Myssage is free for therapists, spas and users for the forseeable future.
3) Do I have to contact you for a profile?
No. Myssage is like Facebook or MySpace in that after you sign up for an account, you create and manage all of the content. My only job with user profiles is to make sure everything is legitimate and tasteful.
4) What do I need to sign up?
A valid email address (ie yourname@yahoo.com), your information such as a bio, pricing, etc, and at least one photo.
5) Do I have to use the calendar?
No, but it's recommended that you use its basic setting to give users a visual idea of your schedule. This means that you set up your weekly availability and then restrict anyone from scheduling appointments online, that way people see your general schedule at a glance.
6) If I use the calendar do I have to set it up every week?
No. You set up your general availability once and it's shown every week until changed.
If you have other questions, take a look at the videos explaining myssage. They will answer just about any question you have concerning the calendar, getting new clients, spa or massage clinic, and bartering. That's it for now, I'm sure more issues will arise as things develop around here. Please don't hesitate to contact me with suggestions about how I can make the site more useful or user-friendly.
I'll be starting to contact therapists in the San Diego area soon and hopefully we'll be seeing some activity (and error reports) on the site in no time.
